Parallel Linkage Coulters For Sidedress

I can confirm that side dress is in full swing everywhere in the midwest. Pretty much every applicator we have ever sold is placing nitrogen in the field this week or early next. The common theme, deeper placement! The hot dry weather makes that hard to do but getting the N to moisture is a big deal, and I talk about some secrets on how to do so in the video below. Our service guys have put up a phenomenal week traveling from southern Indiana, eastern Ohio, Michigan and everywhere in between getting and keeping these applicators running. When we sell them, we make a promise to service them to the full extent, and we have tackled every issue that came up this week in a very speedy manner. Last night I had a customer break a cylinder on his applicator. He called me from Northern Indiana at 9:10 PM frantic wondering what we would do. I knew J&M would have the cylinder, and he is meeting me at our shop at 8:00 this morning for a replacement. That is a team effort from the manufacturer all the way to the customer. That story right there has occurred a dozen times this week, and it is what we are here to do this time of year.

In this episode, don't mind the noise. We were in a service truck headed to Michigan and the noise gets better as we go along, but it is what we had to work with at the time. We talk about the struggles of service, our fishing trip on Lake Erie, and Codys #1 planter attachment.

Parallel Linkage Coulters For Sidedress. Does Your Knife Ride Up?

This year more than any will separate the men from the boys when it comes to which coulter system will work in this hard ground. A single arm coulter, as you increase down pressure to it, just pivots forward around the pivot point and brings the knife higher and higher as you increase pressure, making the problem worse. The parallel linkage coulters, as described in the videos below, keep the knife in the ground at large depth.
